1. Facilitate vehicle energy management

As the basic support for the smart grid, these programmable semiconductor devices are used to control each circuit separately. It is no longer like the traditional electrical box that divides the entire vehicle into OFF, ACC, and ON gears through relays, and the corresponding corresponding gears are specified for each gear. Instead, it can realize the complex VMM (vehicle model management) of the whole vehicle, and when design changes are required, it can also support OTA upgrades.

2. Active detection to reduce maintenance costs

Realize closed-loop control of power distribution and load, realize fault diagnosis and storage through current/voltage detection, and can self-recover after fault is disconnected without replacing components.

3. Low power consumption in the open state

The energy loss of the traditional fuse plus relay circuit is >1W, while the energy loss of the E-FUSE circuit is <0.5W, which saves energy for the whole vehicle and is beneficial to increase the cruising range.

4. Reduce wiring harness complexity and weight

As mentioned above when discussing the performance of fuses and semiconductor devices, fuses have large wiring harness margins due to their imprecise protection, while semiconductor devices can accurately identify line overloads and short-circuit faults due to their precise current detection performance and achieve reliable protection. This further reduces the requirements for wire diameter margin. At the same time, according to the figure below, it can be seen that the smart power distribution box solution can save the control circuit from the power distribution box to the ECU and relay.

This saves line length.

Reduce the occurrence of safety accidents

For very serious car fire accidents, from the perspective of electrical faults, the main reasons are: First, a short circuit in the internal electrical circuit causes a fire. The power lines are connected or collided, and the contact resistance of the electrical lines is too high and the heat will ignite the insulation layer, causing a fire; second, the line contacts are in poor contact, and the local resistance is too high and the heat will cause the wires or contacts to be heated and melted, igniting the wires or surrounding flammable materials. The third is that the current in the battery flows back to the generator, causing the generator coil to generate high temperatures and causing a fire. Combined with the excellent electrical protection characteristics of the semiconductor devices mentioned above, this design can disconnect the fault circuit in time to avoid the generation of a large amount of heat, thus reducing the risk of burning the car. 

6. Meet functional safety requirements

The functional safety level of the power loop is ASIL B, which can support L4 self-driving ASIL D requirements.
