Select the right connector, but the consequences of not considering the contact are very serious
Any engineer with a little practical experience knows that interconnected cables and connectors are an indispensable important element in the design of reliability. They are all passive simulation components that connect simulation and digital systems.
Incorrect installation of interconnection, no tightness, incomplete stress release, too frequent bending, or working on a tight bending radius, these may cause a complete system failure.
What is even more frustrating is that they may be the source of intermittent operations that are difficult to capture. To make matters worse, in many cases, you may not be sure to confirm that you have identified the problem; on the contrary, it may disappear temporarily, maybe because you do, or because of randomness.
For these reasons, designers often spend a lot of time to choose cables and connectors. The selected pairing must be able to deal with frequency and power level, as well as mechanical requirements such as locking device/lifting screw or fixed clip.
Of course, in some cases, industry standards or conventions define these factors; but in many cases, designers have extensive optional room and have not been restricted.
Nevertheless, it is easy to study the main body of cables and connectors, but did the key electrical contacts in the multi -tube foot connector considered? Except to ensure that they can cope with the required current and frequency, they usually do not get much attention. However, this is a very limited view.
For example, the double -beam contactor provides two contacts for a circular or square pins. It is an ideal choice for equipment used to impact and vibrate the environment. However, if you use a large or unsigned pinch foot, the double beam contact (usually made of phosphorus and bronze) will be deformed and is sexually "fixed".
The frequent use of double beam contact provides a balance of reliability, durability and overall performance, but higher than simple configuration costs.
Another commonly used contact is the shape of the fork shown in Figure 2. Because it can be manufactured by stamping metal process, the cost is low. It is used with square pins on the connector, such as plugs compatible with PC-104 standards. The disadvantage is that their spring tension is relatively low, so this is generally less selected in the vibration environment.
In many cases, the performance of the sound fork contact design is almost as good as the double beam, but the cost is lower; here is part of the insulation replacement connector component.
The above is only two contact configuration discussed in this article. In addition, it also includes single beams, circular clips, round fingers, springs, spring, and bilateral contacts. This also cleaned up a place where I deeply understand the vagueness. A few months ago, I had a project related to the connector and found that almost everything was customized, not a standard thing.
In addition to some extensive and very common models of connectors, the spot inventory is relatively small. The user selects the main type of the connector, the number of contacts, the type of contact, the contact type, the contact of the contact, and other parameters, and then the supplier customizes a small product with a short delivery cycle.
