Insulation Failure Analysis and Reliability Design
Insulation resistance refers to the resistance value that occurs when a voltage is applied to the insulating part of the connector to cause leakage current on the surface or inside of the insulating part. That is, insulation resistance (MΩ) = voltage (V)/leakage current (μA) applied to the insulator. Through the insulation resistance test, it is determined whether the insulation performance of the connector meets the requirements of the circuit design or whether its insulation resistance meets the relevant technical conditions when it is subjected to environmental stress such as high temperature and humidity.
Insulation resistance is the limiting factor in designing high impedance circuits. Low insulation resistance means high leakage current, which will destroy the normal operation of the circuit. For example, forming a feedback loop, the heat and DC electrolysis generated by excessive leakage current will damage the insulation or deteriorate the electrical performance of the connector.
